What a friendship John, my dad and Doug Hunt shared! They were blessed with years of hiking trips and so many special memories chronicled by my dad in his "On the Trail: Remembrances of Hiking and Camping in the Pacific Northwest." Great friends, great stories. Condolences to all John´s family and friends; he will be missed.

What a lovely man he was! He and Mitzi were so kind to me, starting when I was a tyke and both our families lived at Randle Ranger Station. We reconnected over the years when I visited my parents in Portland. In later years, a highlight of the visits was joining weekly coffee with "the boys" (John, Doug Hunt, and my dad, Jack Todd). The conversation was always lively. I sure miss "the boys." Heartfelt condolences to the family.

My condolences to the entire Skeele family. I love and miss all of you. I have always had a great respect and love for Uncle John. Although I am saddened by his passing, both John and Mitzi are alive and well in my soul. I have a picture in my hallway of John and Mitzi holding their dog Queenie (If I remember the dogs name correctly after some 50 years) and it has always been one of my favorites... and always brings joy to my heart. It reminds me of all those summers when the Skeele...

I wanted to send my condolences on the passing of uncle John. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love Judy

This is from John´s southern cousin as he referred to me in an attempt to sound southern. John and I did not have the opportunity to get together in person until 25 or so years ago. My husband and I visited them on our way to Alaska. My husband, also John, and really hit it off and were making plans for hiking together but sadly my John died very unexpectedly before this happened. I enjoyed our correspondence over the years and will miss it now. My heart goes out to all of you in your grief.

Want to offer my heartfelt condolences to all the Skeele family. I remember your Dad well coming over to our house either before or after backpacking trips or on his way home after being in the woods with my Dad,Doug Hunt. Those two, along with Jack Todd loved the outdoors and being with each other even after working with each other! The other memory I have was your Dad was always very kind and interested in what I was doing as a kid.Again sorry for your loss but your love for him will always...

My heartfelt condolences to your family from ours. I remember your dad and mom from as far back as 1970 and always enjoyed them. My dad loved to hike and backpack with your dad and we even went on a couple of family trips into the woods. One of my favorite memories with your family was a backpacking trip in Washington on the coast (I can´t remember exactly where) around 1974 with some of you kids, my sister KC, all four parents and your family´s two labs. Later your dad would ask if I...
