John E. Slough John E. Slough was born May 29, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Mr. Slough was a local attorney for over 20 years, beloved father, husband, friend, and an American hero.

He served in the Vietnam war as a 1st Lieutenant in Army Intelligence receiving many medals. He was most proud of the Bronze Star with "V" device and oak leaf cluster, and a Purple Heart for wounds received during the battle at Binh Son District Headquarters in South Vietnam.

John Edward Slough graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy, then earned a BA in Political Science from San Francisco State University. After the war he went on to graduate from Hastings Law with a Juris Doctorate, graduated with an LLM in International Law from the London School of Economics, and earned a CPA degree as well. John was a member of the Bar of Virginia as well as six other states. His children, Lara Elizabeth Slough and John Edward Slough II, benefited greatly from their father's love of travel, he visited 50 countries in his lifetime. Their father took them on grand travel adventures and enriched their lives by visiting their ancestral lands. John will live on and be cherished in the hearts and memories of his family and friends. There will be a local full honors memorial, 4 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the American Legion Post 74, 3025 Louisa Road. (Route 22), Shadwell, VA 22947. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the American Legion Post 74. Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with full honors. The date will be published when it becomes known.

Lara and John II - Time does pass and the pain of loss does get a little easier, but we do not forget. Just want you to know that in 2021, though it has been a few years, we have not and will not forget you - or your Dad. Sorry for the loss of your father. I cherished our friendship and professional interactions for many, many years when you both were younger. I recently returned and found this and was heart broken to hear this.
