John Robert Snyder

Dear Kathy, you will not remember me, but I so appreciated John and your kindness, and inspiring conversation with John when I visited Austin from New Zealand in the late 1990s. I remember John with affection and gratitude. He offered me new perspectives both professionally and spiritually. Best wishes to you and Karl.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Kathy and Karl. We are so sorry not to have known about John's passing. We celebrate having had the opportunity to get to know him. He was a dear, dear man.

John was an amazing man. I have so much respect for him.

I knew him briefly, when I was sitting with the Plum Blossom Sangha in Austin. He blew me away with his in-depth knowledge of the Pali texts, and we bonded as two serious sutta geeks. He brought a considerable amount of life experience to reading and interpreting the teachings of the Buddha. He sent me an e-mail once inquiring as to whether I'd be willing to organize a sutta study group (he was too sick at the time to do it...
