We express our sympathy to Joe, Ron, Barb, Matt, and Mark and all your families and we remember Linda and her family as well in expressing our sympathy on the death of your dad. Johnny was a character and fun loving man whom we will never forget. I always felt a special connection to him with having been our neighbor down the street for many years as I was growing up. When your dad still worked at Beatrice foods, it was like we Bruns kids had our own free ice cream truck on Walnut Street...

To Joe, Ron, Barb, Matt, Mark, and spouses, and also Roger Depweg,
Our sincere sympathy to you and the grandchildren. Uncle John was a
good man and he will be greatly missed. You kids did a wonderful
job of caring for him these last years. He lived a good long life. We are
just sorry that we could not be there. We will keep you in our prayers.

Will never forget all the good neighborhood memories, especially his impromptu ice cream deliveries (strawberry shortcake ice cream bars, sherbet push-ups, bomb pops among the favorites). Memories of my high school days will always include Johnny as well. As the janitor, he could laugh and joke around, make time to chat, yet get his work done. He always wished me luck for upcoming games and just had a real knack...

John was custodian at St. Henry schools while I was still teaching and coaching there. I saw John often and he always had a smile on his face- and candy in his pocket. It became a tradition- I would pass John in the hall and, without saying a word, he would hand me a piece of candy and give me a smile. I had all of John's children when they were in middle school. He was a kind and gentle man- one who had an influence on everyone he met.
