Swartz Funeral Home - Flint Obituary

STEVENS, John Allen – Of Flint, age 58, died Thursday, January 30, 2020 at his home.


Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2020 at First Flint Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4285 Beecher Road Flint, Pastors Jeff Akenberger, Todd Ervin, Craig Harris and Tony Messer co-officiating.


Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.


Visitation 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.


Mr. Stevens will be at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service.


Those desiring may make contributions to First Flint Seventh-day Adventist Church for Flint Arrows Pathfinder Club or First Flint SDA Christian School.


John was born in Angola, Indiana on April 16, 1961, the son of James and Sarah (Fry) Stevens.


John spent his first two years near Orland, Indiana, then moved to New Haven, Indiana, where he grew up.


He attended Church School, New Haven Elementary, Middle and High School. John played on New Haven High School Football and Baseball teams, graduating in 1979.


He attended Ivy Tech Community College and received an Associate’s Degree.


In 1989 he met Gayle Koehn and on June 10, 1990 they married in Roanoke, Indiana.


Their daughter, Bethany was born March 3, 1994.


They moved to West Lafayette, Indiana for John to attend Purdue University and he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1995. 


The family traveled to China in July 2000 to adopt their daughter, Andrea.


In 1996 they moved to Flint, Michigan.


He was currently a member of First Flint Seventh-day Adventist Church. He has served throughout his entire life as an Elder, Deacon, Pathfinder Leader, Lead of Audio Visual, Communications Leader and speaker at Evangelistic meetings.


John was an Engineer in the automotive industry and was employed by Delphi, Rieter Automotive and Aerotek.


Surviving are wife, Gayle Stevens;


daughters, Bethany Stevens and Andrea Stevens;


parents, Bob and Sarah Stevens;


siblings, Bob (Christine) Stevens, Rick (Bonita) Stevens and Cathy Huff;


numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
