My condolences to John's immediate, as well as extended, family and friends. I was a freshman at Yellow Springs High School when John was a senior along with my brother, Tim. I was an (insignificant) fellow member of the track team for whom John set the standard not only as tough, competitive distance runner (YSHS then record holder for the half-mile, mile and two-mile) but also as a good-natured, supportive teammate ... even to lowly freshmen.
