I knew John best during his marriage to Colleen. Her son Rocky and I are friends from childhood and we were both inspired by Johns and Colleens love of the Arts. The spirit of their home and the creative friends who would visit has had a great influence on me. John’s buildings, paintings and heart-warming character will be with me forever. My warmest wishes to Johns family and friends always.

For John Sugden, life was a hearty banquet. He lived fully and without compromise, as I learned when he designed and built my house on Walker Lane. I look back on this with delight, even though the process was difficult for both of us. I first met him through a mutual friend, Dev Jennings, for whom he also built a house, although he never ceased castigating Jennings because he had to build it from wood, rather than steel, since Jennings family owned a lumber business. I believe I met John a long time ago. My grandfather, Kenly W. Whitelock, was the topic of the conversation, and Mr. Sugden spoke to me about some times that my grandfather and he shared together. My prayers are with you all during your time of loss.
