John was one of the most refined men I have ever had the pleasure to serve at the Emanuel. A conversation with him an opportunity to connect with intellectual give and take. He was a regular at my weekly Talmud group downtown and the drive to and from those gatherings was always punctuated with humor and thoughtful take-a-ways. Kathryn - We just learned about John's death this evening and we are SO sorry to hear. Having just gotten to know the 2 of you, I appreciated his kindness and generosity of heart and spirit.
