John "Jack"
Sullivan Jr.
WORCESTER - John "Jack" D. Sullivan, Jr., 73, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, September 5th, 2013 with his loving family by his side.
Jack is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan F. (Mikalauskas) Sullivan; a son, Richard F. Sullivan and his wife Lisa of North Grafton; a daughter, Charleen M. Haskins and her husband Gregory of Worcester; four beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Delaney, Nolan and Skylar; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother and two sisters: Francis X. Sullivan, Noreen Langlois and Margaret Sullivan.
Jack was born in Worcester, son of the late John D. Sr. and Constance (Chevrefils) Sullivan, and lived here all his life.
After graduating from Saint Stephen's High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, both active duty and reserve. He went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the former Worcester Junior College, a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technology from Northeastern University and a Master's Degree in Management Science & Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Jack worked for many years as a mechanical engineer at companies such as Foster Grant, Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett-Packard and, most recently, Philips Healthcare, from which he retired in 2007. He was a member of the Catholic Community at Saint George Church in Worcester, where he was a longtime volunteer at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. He had also been a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jack was a talented handyman and could fix anything. He enjoyed going to Maine, spending time near the ocean and tending to his garden. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was an extraordinarily generous and loving man who found the most joy in being with his family, especially his grandchildren who were the most precious gifts in his life.
Calling hours for Jack will be held on Monday, September 9th, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 10th, 2013 from the funeral home, departing at 10:30 a.m. for his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Saint George Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester.
