John Robert Swindlehurst, II 73, died April 12, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Hopkinton he has been a lifelong resident of Dunbarton. Mr. Swindlehurst was President of Dunbarton Fuel Service since 1961.

He served as Past Master of Bible Lodge # 27 F&AM, 11 terms as Past Patron Martha Washington Chapter # 6 Order of the Eastern Star, 30 years as Drum Major for Bektash Temple Drum Corp, 17 years as Treasurer of Concord Regional Solid Waste Resource Recovery Cooperative and State Fire Training Instructor, District # 19. He was a member of NH Mutual Aid Association, Stark Grange P of H # 47, Royal Order of Jesters and State of NH House of Representatives. Mr. Swindlehurst served the Town of Dunbarton as a 50 year member of Dunbarton Volunteer Fire Department, 14 years as Chief, Town Selectman for 4 terms, 30 year Police Officer, Forest Fire Warden, Health Officer, Civil Defense Director, 29 year member and Chairman of Forest Committee and member of the Board of Assessors. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Air Force.

He was predeceased by his parents John R. and Josephine (Boynton) Swindlehurst, stepfather Francis Merrill and a granddaughter Karri Ann Rae.

Members of his family include his wife Eleanor (Rogler) Swindlehurst of Dunbarton, three daughters Joanne Swindlehurst Malia of Sandy Hook, Ct., Suzanne Swindlehurst Buck of Bridport, Vt., Martha Swindlehurst Rae of Dunbarton. A son John Robert Swindlehurst III of Dunbarton. 11 grandchildren Brian Rae, Jr, Brandon Rae, Laura Swindlehurst, Megan Swindlehurst, Hannah Swindlehurst, Brittny Buck, Garth Buck, Mark Malia IV, Jonathan Malia, Ashley Malia and Nicole Malia. One sister Edith Rumrill of Warner.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at French and Rising Funeral Home 17 South Mast Street Goffstown. Funeral services will be Monday 1PM at Dunbarton Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Dunbarton Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Mr. Swindlehurst requested that donations be sent to Dunbarton Volunteer Fire Department Association, Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital or that you take a friend out to dinner.

Am so sad to hear of John's passing. It is certainly a great loss to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His family is in my prayers.
