Mr. John was a fixture of the Senior Program at Washington Heights Community Ministries. It made my day to see him arrive each morning and throw up his hand and wave. He enjoyed taking part in the program, but what he seemed to love most was helping out - getting ice water, pouring coffee or serving the other seniors - it didn't matter as long as he was helping. When I think of Papa John, I think of John 14: 1-6. Starting with, "Let not your heart be troubled". I remember a couple years ago Papa John took ill and ended up in critical care and God spared his life. Papa John showed himself faithful by stepping right back into the service of the King at Holy Light. Today his faithfulness is rewarded as his Faith has become sight!! To God alone be the glory for the example Papa John gave us through his life, even his faithfulness unto death.
