John J. Timmerman

Dr. Timmerman's passing marks the end of an era. As I was growing up, I became used to people confusing Prof. Timmerman with my dad, Dick Tiemersma, who also taught English at Calvin. When I moved to Bellflower, CA, a Calvin grad greeted me, saying, "I had your father for English. He was such a kind man." Without thinking, I replied, "Oh, you must mean Dr. Timmerman." (She did.)
