Not sure what to say?

I am originally from the Chesterton area and living in Michigan for many years now I still read your local papers because I still have family and friends there. I did not know Mr. Tomczak but I just had to write in to say that his story truly touched me. What a hero! He obviously loved life, family, friends and let nothing stand in his way of finishing everything he set out to do! From one true Cubs fan to another Mr Tomczak, thank you for your service and may you carry on your miracles in...

Rest in peace my lifelong Burlington Beach brother. Thanks for teaching me how to live and how to be positive in life. God bless.

My memory of John centers around lengthy telephone conversations we had in the 1970s. In between his visits to our store, the conversations were frequent and through them John demonstrated the attitude behind his miraculous recovery. He is truly one of America's heroes.

I knew John as a kid at Flint lake as we play a lot of ball together as all of us would some how come up with a baseball . I Just had return from my second tour in NAM when John was hit when he finally return home I would pick him up and we go and get a pepperoni pizza which he always at that time had a craving for . Always remember him telling me he never knew what to say to people when ask about Nam for he was only there a very short time before being hit and I laugh and tell him you just...

John lived a couple of blocks from me. I use to go over and assist him when he had computer problems. John had a great sense of humor and a wonderful attitude towards life. He truly was a hero and lived each day to its fullest.

I took care of John . As his caregiver I also became a good friend of his and his wife. My heart is heavy from the lost of him. I really cared about him. He is a sweet laid back man. He never got upset and never worried about a thing. One thing is he truly loved his wife too pieces. He was thankful and grateful for what he had in his life. John was like a father to me. I will always remember him, and will carry his memories of are friendship close to my heart. R.I.P John, you will be missed...

I have known John for many years, first as kids hanging out at the lake, then as the hero that survived Vietnam.then finally as the deeply spiritual soul who finally caught the love of his life,Linda. It is an honor to call them friends. They have lifted me up so many times and so many ways,I'll always be grateful to have known him. We shared a love of the daily crossword puzzle and occasionally worked our way through it. He will be missed, but I know where he is and in who's arms he...

On behalf of the B.S.A. I was aware of Johns presence ever since the 1960s when he was a member of the summer Camp Staff at Camp To-Pe-Ne-Bee. My Scouts would always comment on this personable staff member at camp and how helpful and fun he was to be with. I never met him at the time and only just last summer was able to track him down and finally have the pleasure of meeting and talking with him. Im grateful for that experience and to offer my condolences to his wife and sister for their...

I used live just down the street and mow you parents lawn as a kid growing up. I must say that John is easily one of the happiest and funniest people I ever met. We'd talk while I took a break, having some lemonade your mom brought out and he'd always make me laugh. I was a bit young to realize the lessons he was teaching me, but since then I realize that he wanted everyone to make the most out of every day because there is nothing more valuable than time well spent with others.
