TOMPKINS, John W. "Jay"- Of Mt. Morris, age 75, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, July 7, 2008 at Heritage Baptist Church, 5199 East Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Pastor Dan Louman officiating with Pastors Carl Petty and Ron Emmerling co-officiating. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Herb and Joan Prince, c/o Abundant Life Ministries in Honduras, P.O. Box 6241, North Little Rock, AR 72124. Visitation 12:30PM -8PM Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mr. Tompkins will be at the church from 10AM Monday until the time of the service. John was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas on September 9, 1932, the son of John A. and Lexie Tompkins. He married Laverne Bloomer on December 30, 1953. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and UAW Local 659. Mr. Tompkins was employed by Chevrolet Manufacturing for 32 years, retiring in 1982. Surviving are wife, Laverne; 4 children, Johnny of Flint, James and wife Kathy of Otisville, Donald and wife Rachel of Coldwater and Sonya Tompkins of Flagstaff, Arizona; 4 grandchildren, David, John II, Kathleen and Edward; 2 great-grandchildren, Cody and Austin; 2 sisters, Opal Meadows and Mary McElrath, both of North Little Rock, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lexie Tompkins and daughter, Judy Tompkins, in 1969. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com
