Age 88, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at his residence shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon, Monday, February 6, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 North Adelaide Street, Fenton, Father Kurian Kollatallil officiating. Military Rites will follow under the auspices of the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard. Visitation 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Toth will be at the church from 11 a.m. Monday until the time of the Mass. John was born, August 10, 1923 in Gary, WV, the son of John and Bertha Toth. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, "Johnny" married Delores Mae Poling, April 24, 1948. He was educated as an Electronics Engineer (B.S.) at the American Television School, Evanston, IL. In 1950 he founded and presided over TV Engineers, Inc., bringing the first color TVs to Flint, MI and was commonly known as "The King of Color TV." Also, as a co-owner of the Wagon Wheel Bar, Flint, MI from 1951 until 1970's along with his life-long friends Sonny and Bea Sexton, he helped bring many years of Country Music and Western Swing to the community. His numerous contributions to Country Music were celebrated this past August, 2011 with his induction into the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame. Throughout his adulthood, he remained an avid outdoorsman and hunted extensively in the wildernesses of both Alaska and Canada. His leisure time was also filled with European and cross-country travels with his wife and family. John was also a proud 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. Surviving are their beloved family of 4 children Leslie Ann Trout (friend-Brian Polisky), Carrie Lee (David) Terrian, John David (Lynn) Toth, and Donna Rae (Raymond) Roney; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
