John F. Townsend

During the late 80´s and early 90´s I was John´s student at Umass Amherst. We were very close as I was drawn to the physicality and processes of cast bronze and welded steel sculptures. during my time there I created at least 6 steel and 5 bronze sculptures. I took a course or two with John in the early 70's while a student @ Hampshire. I have always thought of John as one of the most natural teachers I had. His enthusiasm for art was infectious. He was a marvelous communicator. He helped to teach me how to see.
