Not sure what to say?

I only knew John through his comments on Peace Corps World Wide a web site founded by RPCVs and not associated with the official Peace Corps. John also was an email friend. He comments were always informative and helpful. I had missed hearing from me. I did not realize the reason why. He will be missed. His contribution were great. May he rest in peace.

Remember John from St. Malachy School in Geneseo, Il. My sympathy to his family

I met John through the NM Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCV) Group. What I remember most about him are the emails he would send to the larger group with his insights on various topics, international, political, etc. He was very passionate and informed. I hope his soul is at peace. My condolences to his family.
P.S. love seeing pics of his PC days.

I'll always remember my classmate at Sacred Heart & Alleman. We spent some good times at his parents house next to Saukie golf course & my home on Brittany Lane. I remember his red Ford convertible we enjoyed cruising in along the R.I. one-ways. R.I.P. John. You were a good friend.

John Turnbull was a fellow Peace Corps volunteer geologist in Ghana, from 1963 to 1964. John and I trained in Diamond Prospecting at the Consolidated African Selection Trust, Ltd. (CAST Ltd.) at Akwatia, Ghana, and organized a Diamond Prospecting Unit for the Ghana Geological Survey at Kade in Ghana’s Eastern Region. In 1964 John decided that he would rather teach secondary school and transferred to the Malawi Peace Corps Project in Central Africa, where he taught for a single semester and...

The first word that comes to my mind to describe John is "brilliant!"
Thanks to class reunions, John and I became email friends
in the past several years; I soon learned, among many other things, that he was also thoughtful, ambitious, talented, patriotic, and always finding ways to help people, be they family, friends, or total strangers. His family, and Alleman High School, can be very proud of him. He will be greatly missed.
R.I.P, John.

Always a quiet boy in elementary grades. Very smart, always knew the answers. Kind, friendly, still somewhat quiet in high school.

Thank you John for life well lived. Your serious commitment to service and your deep conviction of heart leave us a keen example of a life well lived. Your encouragements in my own struggles with social injustices, your affirmations that each person’s voice counts and your gentle and comprehensive approach make me bow my head and send up a prayer to the universe. Long live your peaceful ways, rest now and shine on in the stars that guide us.
