Not sure what to say?

We bot worked for the NCT and I knew his wife Sylvia..send comforting wishes to you Sylvia..Myra Washington

John worked for me at KPMG in 1994 (he was already retired) where he started a corporate magazine called World Business Review. He was an honourable, colourful, incisive professional and an encouraging friend. He was exactly as others have said about him - a terrifyingly good writer and editor. We kept in touch occasionally in his active retirement years, and I always admired his energy. I want to wish his family well.

Lil, you don't know me, but John and we lived 6 houses from each other when we were going to high school. We had planned to get together with another friend living @ Lake Havasu also a high school chum. We just never got around to it. I am so sorry for that.

Just now getting the word of John's passing. We are in such shock. He was a wonderful man with such a kind heart & a truely great love and respect for GOOD journalism. He truely will be missed in our lives having shared many common grounds in our walk of life. God is with you and your family even as time passes.
Deep love to you and yours, Brent and Jenne Clingman (Lake Havasu City, Az)

Dear Sylvia,
I read John's columns regularly and enjoyed them. I didn't know you were married to such a brilliant writer. I think of you often and maybe some day Sandy, you and I can go to lunch and share a few laughs again.

Even though I never met John personally, I think all of his readers know what a gift he had to really understand what life was about. So Thank you John for all your columns, they will be missed. And for your loved ones he will not be forgotten.

I met John in 2004 in the North County Times news room and was due to have lunch with the Van Doorns ( where i would finally meet his beloved Lilly) and a mutual friend. The Van Doorns had to cancel due to a death in their family. I found out later that his last column was about that death. I was looking forward to rescheduling but his light went out in the world before that could happen. He is missed and will be so for a long time to come.

John you were one of a kind! You brought so much happiness to my dear friend Sylvia, and I am forever grateful that you two found each other. I feel fortunate to have worked with you and to have called you friend.
