Not sure what to say?

I still miss my mentor and dear friend Professor Van Haren. Remember his stories that for me was in itself a lesson of "art in context". Brilliant, kind and caring teacher.

It was so good to be reminded of my dear Prof. Van Haren. I think of him often. Pretty much every time I look at my own work. Thinking of you all there family. John's spirit is still here with me, and for sure there too. Always a candle burning in the window here with a grateful prayer.

Dear Joyce, I'm so sorry I've been out of touch for so long. It was such an honor to spend time with you and John when we exchanged our artwork. I know that FireChute is in good hands, and I have the lovely piece he was so gracious to give me.

If it hadn't been for my beloved and understanding Professor, I would have given up long ago...

I think of you often and hope your writing is going along well too.

Love,
Kathleen A. Sheridan

To the Van Haren Family:

We are proud owners of a monument to John E. Van Haren and had wished that we could have connected years ago to personally thank him for the beautiful work of art - "Ann Arbor Landscape" that my wife and I purchased through the Michigan Art Society back around 1967 - 68. The painting has always held a prominent display within our residences and visually has given us pleasure throughout many years of always finding a unique depth of color and ink which...

John, We were so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear Joyce, Jeffrey and John F: My thoughts are with you. Jack was such a devoted family man, teacher, artist, friend, conversationalist, and spiritual person. His contributions to the community and the EMU Art Department were immeasurable, and his friendship to my family most cherished. I wish I could be with you at this time, but am sending my wishes of healing and support across the miles.

I was so sorry to hear about John's passing. He was a wonderful, talented, outgoing gentle man. He was a joy to work with and will be missed by me and so many others. We were lucky to know him.

Offering our deepest sympathies during this time.
