Not sure what to say?

John was a pillar in the Schenectady School District as well as in the community at large. The loss creates a void which will never be filled.

To the Van Schaick family:

I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Van Schaick back in the late 1980s when I went to school with his relative Elliot Floersch at Linton High School.

I was so impressed with all that John accomplished. I too have an interest in politics and intense desire to serve my hometown. I aspire to have the same profound impact on Schenectady that John had.

Your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Best,

John H

He and Sally were my next-door neighbors and a more devoted, wonderful couple does not exist. I will miss him greatly. He was always ready to share information or tell you things you may not have been aware of.

Sally,
John and you served as inspirational mentors to countless developing educators. I, like many of my colleagues, embraced your guidance and example. Please know that John's legacy lives on in the work of those he influenced during the course of his life. He will not be forgotten.

He was one of my most favorite people. He was my hign school English teacher at Mont Pleasant High School in the late 1960s. He was a very good mentor to me and I learned a great deal from him. His memory will live with me forever.

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief...and unspeakable love.”

Wishing the family much love.

My second father!

John will be missed by many and I will always remember his great family stories and kindness toward me.
