I am a high school basketball referee and remember John well. He always greeted me with a handshake and a smile when I came to the school to work a game. He was friendly, cordial and professional about his job. I know he battled his illness for a while and never let on or complained. I'm sorry to hear of his passing and send condolences to his family.

John was the coolest guy at Bryan Junior High. Our paths diverged, but he told me on Facebook the prognosis for his illness and I remain impressed with his strength.
