John was a wonderful person, friend and fellow history professor. For 20 years, he, his wife Catherine, Angeles Dam and I took our students on Summer Study Tours all over Europe The many cultural and language experiences enhanced the learning opportunities of our students but also deepened our friendships with one another. JOHN VIGILANTE was my teacher for a SPEED READING class at Ponus Ridge many years ago. He was a wonderful man who took an experimental course and made it so very special to all who were chosen to take it. I personally looked forward to a new challenge every day, and my love for reading was heightened by a man who made me comfortable stretching to new limits.
