Semian Funeral Home Obituary

The Honorable John Wansacz, of Scott Township, passed peacefully Saturday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center. His beloved wife of 45 years is the former Maryann Presty Wansacz. Born in Old Forge on October 7, 1936 and a graduate of Old Forge High School. He was the son of the late Anna Wansacz. John was always considered a hard worker from the time he worked at Morris White Fashions to being elected six terms as a Pennsylvania State Representative in the 114th Legislative District. Upon his retirement from the House of Representatives, he proudly served Lackawanna County as a member of the Board of Appeals and as an owner of Heart Lake Lodge, Scott Township. John was a parishioner of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Old Forge and a Master Mason, Moosic Masonic Lodge, #664 F & A.M. John took his civic responsibility very seriously and was proud of his voting record and the recognition he received from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for not missing a vote in 50 years. Also surviving are two sons, John Wansacz Jr. and Kimberly Nemeth, Greenfield Township; Lackawanna County Commissioner Jim Wansacz and wife Dr. Maria, Ciuferri-Wansacz, Old Forge; a daughter, Melanie Wansacz , Greenfield Township; four grandchildren, Alexis, Nadia, Jace and Madison Wansacz ; a brother-in-law Michael Presty and wife Sonia; and a sister-in-law Martha Presty, all of Scott Township; two nephews, Michael and David Presty. The Wansacz family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the entire staff of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Eastern Regional Medical Center, Philadelphia, for the care, support and understanding the past seven years. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St. Taylor, followed by services at 10:00 am in St. Michael's Orthodox Church 512 Summer St., Old Forge, by the Rev.
