We met as freshman trying out for the SMU golf team. We were both successful in achieving that goal. We played together in our very first college match in 1968 and continued to play together and compete both as teammates and adversaries our entire college career. We also found a "Spades" game as a source of competition and John and David Cox and Jim Halsted and I played into the wee hours many nights when we should have been studying. Our sophomore year we played in the top 4 on the golf team...

I knew John for 40+ years and he was an exceptionally good man. He was always "there" with his support. He was everything described in this obituary and then some. He will be sorely missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out for you Denni, Jay and Davis too.
