WASHINGTON, John C.

John C. Washington was born May 21, 1942 in Tyler, Texas to Lurine Laberta Spencer. John was the eldest of six children.

John attended Emmett Scott Senior High school in Tyler, Texas. John sacrificed obtaining his high school diploma to support his mother and siblings. He later completed his GED and furthered his education additionally at Park College, Military Resident Center on Bergstrom Air Force Base, specializing in Business Management.

John and Barbara Washington were united in Holy Matrimony in Austin, Texas. John and Barbara gave birth to three children: Rochelle Rena Marshall, Tonia Denise Washington, and Johnathan Chris Washington. John and Barbara assisted in rearing his nephew Jermaine Maxwell.

John accepted Christ and during his illness he faithfully enjoyed church service on television every Sunday. He rededicated his life to Christ at True Hope Christian Ministries.

John had several nicknames; his close military friends called him "baldy" and his close friends and family called him "J.C.". He had a gift for carpentry and could build a house from the ground up (this talent spear headed his entrepreneurial spirit and J&J Home Repair was born in 1983). Prior to J&J Home Repair, John served in the Air Force from April 1972 to January 1981. His military decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, and 6 Air Force Good Conduct Medals. Immediately after John retired from the Armed Forces, he obtained a managerial position at Rockford Business Interiors and later at Pony Express Courier Corporation.

John had a passion for the great outdoors; His hobbies were fishing, gardening, bowling, and softball. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan and he enjoyed a good game.

John is preceded in death by his siblings Alice Maxine Spencer and James R. Washington, his granddaughter Jada Brianna Rosier, and his mother Lurine Laberta Spencer.

John leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Barbara Washington; his children Rochelle Rena Marshall (Paul), Tonia Denise Washington, and Johnathan Chris Washington (LaTonya); his nephew Jermaine N. Maxwell who he assisted in rearing; his grandchildren Brittany Denise Clemons, Ahyana Danielle Horton, Devuan DeJon Washington, Alexus Cherrell Horton, and Harmonie Sarai Washington; his great grandchildren Nyeemah Denise Lugala, Nolan Jadan Bell, and Nevan Lewis Bell; his aunts Charlotte Stephenson and Mary Smith; his siblings Author Charles Washington, Rebecca L. Spencer, and Pernell Spencer; cousins; nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 11:00 a.m. at True Hope Apostolic Church 8863 Anderson Mill Rd. Austin, TX. 78729

The public may view from 1:00-6:00 P.M. Friday, April 25, 2014, Rosary to follow at 7:00pm at Mercer Memorial Chapel of Fuller-Sheffield Funeral Services 2808 E. M.L.K. Jr. Blvd.
