Read MoreI just visited Chicago with my husband for dinner and a play last weekend. I remembered John and the times we spent talking, laughing and enjoying each other's company in the same restaurant we visited together. I wonder often - what advice would he give, what story would he tell, and what points would he make in debating an issue? I miss him.

I met John when I first started working retail security on Michigan Avenue in 1983. He and his partner Bob were entertaining at best and there certainly was never a dull moment. We kept in touch up until a few years ago, when my husband I and would make a date to meet John at Arlington Park. My sincere belated condolences to his family. John was a good man.

It was always so nice to have John around to talk to when John & Mary Kriho had gatherings at their house. He was such an interesting guy.
