I was John’s friend before he became known for his art talents and accomplishments. I was privileged to have gone on a sketch and watercolor outing with him in his home town of Butler, Mo. He had a love of life and empathy for injured animals. He would splint a bird’s injured wing and care for and feed other animals in need. He was fascinated with people with character and living lives different from the norm. He and my dad had a reciprocal admiration for each other. He always kept in touch...
