Not sure what to say?

When I was in the fifth grade at Northwest Academy I was wearing a POW/MIA Bracelet. A very sweet girl sitting behind me tapped my shoulder and asked "Who is on your bracelet?" I showed her with my wrist offered fully and wrist flexed to show the man I prayed for and I said, "Maj. John H. Wendell, Jr." "That is my father", she said. It was my classmate Angela. His daughter. I have thought about him constantly since then. I always wondered about Angela. Major Wendell came and spoke to...

Bebe and family,
Fred and i are so sad to learn of John's passing. It is a comfort to know he is now with many beloved family and friends. Our hearts are with you and your family.
Devotedly, Ginger Carey Polley (Arlington, TX)

I attendend grammar school (Georgia Tucker) and high school (Neville) with Johnny and just heard about his death. We recently had our Neville High School 55th Class Reunion the weekend of Oct. 16. We all wondered why we did not hear from Johnny and many people asked about him. He was a wonderful person and we were all devastated when he was taken prisoner in Viet Nam and ecstatic when he was released and able to attend our 20th reunion in 1974. I am so sorry we were unaware of his illness...

Dear Bebe:
I am so sorry to learn of John's passing. My thoughts are with you and the kids.

Bebe my thoughts and prayers are with you and the kids at this time of the loss of John. I was my great honor to have known John. He was a true hero.

Dearest Bebe,Ware, Margaret, Elizabeth and Morton~ It has taken me a day or so to decide what to write in a limited space. Richard and I send our sympathy, of course, but as we read the obituary over and over we both were so humbled by John's service to his family and to his country. Too late we get too smart, and now we realize how much more we'd like to have visited with him. What a strong and smart man he was, and we hope you will treasure every minute you had with him. Our love to all...

To the Wendell Family,

As one of the lieutenants that John took under his wing and supported and mentored at Bitburg, I will always be grateful. His encouragement never wavered through our days in Takhli or while we were in Hanoi. A true patriot and hero. John, GN and GBU.

To the Wendell Family,
Judy and I were sadden to learn of John's passing. I have known John since our days at Bitburg. I have allways been in John's debt since we were cell mates in Hanoi. God speed and you will allways be in our prayers.
John & Judy

What a funny, curmudgeony, stubborn, brave, smart, endearing man - not enough adjectives for John! I have been priviledged to have been "a part of this family" and to have received the gift of knowing him and seeing his love and care of his family and theirs of him. I am more than sure that his spirit soared and that he is "flying with the angels" (an interesting vision)!!!!!
God's blessing to you, Bebe, Ware, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Morton, and so very much love.
Mary Ellen
