Andover, NH-John W. Whitcomb, 70, of Elkins Hill Road, died Monday, April 14, 2003 at the New London Hospital. He was born on May 4, 1932 in New London, NH the son of Clarence E. and Kathleen (Noble) Whitcomb. He was a lifelong resident of Andover. Mr. Whitcomb graduated from Andover High School in 1951 and later from Concord Commercial College. He was an accountant for Concord Electric for 34 years retiring in 1988. He had been the Town Clerk and Tax Collector for Andover for 19 years. Mr. Whitcomb served in the US Army during Korea as a paramedic. He was a member of the Andover Lions Club and was presently serving as treasurer, a position he had held for many years. In 2000, Mr. Whitcomb received the Melvin Jones Fellowship from the Lions Club which is the highest award received for dedicated humanitarian services. He built his home as well as others and also several cottages. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Clarence E., Robert A. and C. Gen! e Whitcomb. Members of his family surviving include his wife of 36 years, Mary Jane (Greenwood) Whitcomb of Andover, NH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jon and Lori Whitcomb of Belmont, NH and Patric and Gabrielle Whitcomb of Waterboro, ME; five grandchildren, Amelia, Jacob, Justin, Jared, and Kyle; two nephews whom the Whitcombs raised Timothy and Steven Whitcomb both of San Diego, CA; a brother, Paul W. Whitcomb of Andover, NH; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 174 Main Street, New London, NH on Wed., April 16, 2003 from 7-9 P.M. A funeral will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at Immaculate Conception Church in Potter Place, NH. Burial will be in Proctor Cemetery, Andover, NH at a later date.
