Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home - Brookville Obituary

John S. Whitmire, 63, of Sunman, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  Born June 17, 1957 in Albany, Shackelford County, Texas, he was the son of the late Jerome and Janis (Hightower) Whitmire of New Trenton, Indiana.

John was a 1976 graduate of Forest Park High School, Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was a vacuum furnace operator at General Electric in Evendale, Ohio and retired in 2017 after 39 years of service.

John loved his home and could usually be found out in his barn tinkering in his workshop.  His hobbies included winter backpacking, gardening, canning, cooking, and making YouTube videos. John loved nothing more than sitting around his firepit with family and friends sipping on a cold glass of Crown Royal.

John will be deeply missed by his wife of 44 years, Susan (Simpson) Whitmire.  His two children, Matthew (Jessica) Whitmire, Sunman, Indiana and Sara (Jimmie) Childers, Batesville, Indiana will cherish his memory.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chance, Hayden, Draven and Nikiya; his sister, Mellissa (Mel) Gayer of Villa Hills, Kentucky and sister in law, Sien (McGill) Whitmire of Walton, Kentucky.  John was preceded in death by his parents and loving brother, Don Whitmire of Walton, Kentucky.

Per John’s request, there will be no public service. Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Safe Passage Inc. ~ P. O. Box 235 Batesville, IN 47006. Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements. For more information, or send condolences and memories, or to sign the online guest book, go to www.cookrosenberger.com. Not sure what to say?

Sue, Sara and Matt, you all have my deepest sympathies. John was my late husband, Gary Moore's best friend in high school and he was also a groomsmen in our wedding. I always will remember John's smile and playing "air guitar" to Fly Like an Eagle. Rest in peace John and look down from Heaven over your family.

John was a good friend that left this life much too soon. I have many fond memories of my time spent with him. In the 40+ years I knew John I was always impressed by his love for his wife and his children. He will be definitely be missed. Rest in peace my friend.

So sad to hear this. Always a kind and friendly guy.
