Not sure what to say?

I moved to Lynchburg fall 1953, a junior at E.C. Glass High School. I lived with aunt and uncle (Thornhill) Rivermont Avenue, next to the Rivermont Baptist Church. There was a scout group (Explorers ?) that met in the neighborhood, which I quickly joined, which is how I met John Withrow, then a sophomore at E.C. Glass. Others in the group included Dick Royer, John Bell, Ed Lovern, and Vern Keefer. I knew little about birds and was thus intrigued by John's enthusiasm, which caused me to accept...

I met John Withrow while he worked at CB Fleet as a security officer. He and I often talked about bird watching and the seasonal influx of various birds. He always had a smile for everyone. He will be missed. You have my sincere sympathy.

Our condolences to the family. He obviously was a remarkable man who contributed much to his community and society.

Dear family,

I remember John well. I was in school back in the '60s when he got so "famous" in Lynchburg, and I want you to know I was very much on his side and quite vocal about it--even though I didn't know him. Happily, I was able to meet John at the Lodge of the Fisherman a few years ago and give him a hug and tell him. He'll be missed.
