I did not see or speak with John since 1980, when I transferred from the school at which we both worked. Still, I remember his very positively as an urbane, cultured, witty and gregarious gentleman, impeccable in matter and thoroughly civil and giving of empathy. I can picture him today in my mind and am impressed by his legacy from many standpoints.
