Johnia Brunson was born on August 19, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia. He was the son of the late Eugene Brunson and Juanita Pearl Frost Pressley. He departed his earthly life and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 16, 2024, at Centennial Hills Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Johnia's life was filled with diverse experiences and adventures. He was reared in Buffalo, New York, and later moved to various cities throughout the United States. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he exemplified dedication and courage.

After relocating to Los Angeles, California, he pursued a career in acting and had the opportunity to appear as an “extra” in several movies, including the iconic "Rush Hour" alongside Chris Tucker. In addition to his military service and acting pursuits, Johnia found joy in the culinary arts and worked as a chef in numerous restaurants, sharing his passion for food with others. He was also a Freemason.

Johnia will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to give to others in need, and his love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that touched the lives of many.

Johnia was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Lamar Brunson, and brother, Manuel Pressley.

He leaves to cherish his memory: children, Aaron William Brunson and Teki Brunson; five grandchildren, Annastasia Brunson, Ariel Smith, Zariah, Maddy and Logan Brunson; three great-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Benita Pressley; nephews, Aaron Pressley and Buchanan Pressley; special first cousins, Alberta Bradley and Faye S. Husser; and a host of cousins and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.

A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, 1:00 p.m., at O. Allen Gethers Jr. Memorial Chapel, 200 Grace Street, Moncks Corner, SC, with viewing from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Peters AME Church Cemetery, Bonneau, SC.

The service will be live streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/gethersfh
