Jon Toby Lattu, 64, of Littlefork, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 10, at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, following a lengthy illness. Jon was born August 21, 1949, in Littlefork, Minnesota, to Rene and Toby Lattu. He graduated from Littlefork-Big Falls High School with the class of 1967. Jon joined the US Navy and entered the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA, where he attended boot camp, radioman school and survival training prior to serving in Vietnam for three years. Following his military service, he returned to civilian life. He worked at various jobs throughout his life including Boise Cascade, Rainy Lake Beverage Company and as a bartender at Border Bar before working as a sales and delivery man for Land O'Lakes Foods until his retirement in December 2011. Jon is survived by his son, Spicer Lattu of Fargo, North Dakota; Spicer's mother, Ruth Lattu of Littlefork, Minnesota and his sister, Emmi Lattu of International Falls, Minnesota. Other relatives are: Eddie and Shelley Williams, Shane and Angie Williams, Paul Dahlen, Jana and Chris LeClaire, Scott Anderson, and their families. Special family friends include Gail Costley, Gary Saunders, and Freddie Reierson as well as three long-time Navy buddies - Jerry Arenkiel, Bob Metzger, and Bud Baughn (recently deceased). Jon was preceded in death by his mother and father, Irene (Rene) and Toby Lattu and sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Jack Cooper. A graveside service with military rites will be held at Oakley Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 21, with a luncheon to follow at the Littlefork VFW. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Saunders, Jerry Arenkiel, Bob Metzger, Freddie Reierson, Eddie Williams, Tony Netland, Mark Trompeter, and Paul Dahlen. If so desired, memorials may be given to the Littlefork Lutheran Church Altar Guild. The Altar Guild takes care of the needs of the altar, including the eternal candle which Jon's mother gave to the Church in honor of Jon's service in Vietnam. Following in his father's footsteps, Jon was the caretaker of Oakley Cemetery for many years and memorials may also be given to the Oakley Cemetery Association.
