Jon Christopher Moss. A champion and inspiration to all who knew him and countless others who didn't have the privilege, Jon Christopher Moss passed away Sunday, September 24, 2006 in Mesa, Arizona. Born February 17, 1966 in Syracuse, Nebraska, Jon graduated from Southeast High School in Lincoln, NE and earned a bachelors degree in finance from the University of Nebraska. Jon moved to Arizona in 1988 and remained an avid and loyal Nebraska Husker fan! Fresh out of college he worked as a stockbroker, yet spent most of his career with Insight Enterprises, Inc. where he served as a director of Product Management, as well as director of the Hewlett-Packard Program for Insight subsidiary Direct Alliance. While working at Insight, Jon met the loves of his life, wife Kaylene M Ozmun and daughters Alison and Emily. Jon and Kaylene were married January 11, 1997 in Phoenix. A most devoted family man, Jon reveled in his position of husband and father, even proudly detailing his "Mr. Mom" duties to family and friends in recent years. Jon's other passion in life was his tireless devotion to the American Cancer Society (ACS) and all its facets. From mentoring other ACS volunteers to twice lobbying members of Congress in Washington D.C for increased cancer research funding, Jon was a dedicated advocate for the ACS and all people affected by the disease. His advocacy and fundraising accomplishments include being recognized nationally as an outstanding advocacy volunteer in 2004; testifying in front of the AZ State Legislature as part of the ACS effort to shape public policy; originator of the idea to deliver daffodils to every Arizona lawmaker's office as a symbol of hope on the annual One Voice Against Cancer Advocacy Day at the State Legislature; earning ACS Volunteer of the Year in 2005; honorary chair, mentor and team captain for the ACS Relay for Life/Ahwatukee from 2003-2006; spokesperson for ACS and the United Way 2004 and 2005; holding a variety of titles such as top fundraiser, planning committee member and honorary chair for the Climb to Conquer Cancer at South Mountain since 1999. Jon was also an active member of the Fiesta Bowl committee and Mountain View Lutheran Church. Jon is survived by his devoted wife, Kaylene, Phoenix; daughters Alison and Emily Ozmun, Phoenix; parents Kathleen and Merle (Fritz) Moss of Lincoln, NE; parents-in-law Nancy and Ramon Warner, Layton, UT; brothers Thomas, Phoenix; Daniel, wife Nicole and children: Hayden and Marlee, Lincoln, NE; and brother-in-law Curtis (JoDee) McCulloch, West Point, UT. Jon will also be missed by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jon is preceded in death by his grand-parents Elmer and Minnie Moss, George and Irma Feeken; and nephew Tanner Moss. A viewing is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29, 6 - 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 30, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85044. The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m. at Mountain View Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ 85248. Arrangements by Bunker Funeral Home, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ 85201, 480-964-8686.

Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry for your loss. I haven't seen Jon in many years. We graduated from Southeast together in 1984. He was one of the nicest guys I have ever known. My favorite memory is when our group of friends went to the Cars concert. I couldn't see the stage, so Jon lifted me up on his shoulders to watch the concert. I will always remember Jon as a strong, kind hearted man.

I saw and heard Jon speak at a number of American Cancer Society events. He was always such an inspiration to me. I am so sorry for your loss. He touched and inspired more people than he will ever know.

Jon was such an inspiration to me when I attended the annual One Voice Against Cancer Advocacy Day at the State Legislature. When he would finish speaking it was always followed by a standing ovation.

Every time I see a daffodil, I will think of him.

Sadly, I just heard the news through email from Dan Betcher. I had the pleasuer of working with Jon Moss from 1993 -1997. He will be missed terribly. Kayleen, my love, thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Take care!

Fritz & Kathy, Tom & Danny:

Dan and I have each of you in our prayers. Our memories of you three boys are such happy ones. Jon was the leader and you two followed along. He would show you two how to do things and then you two would practice. I just have to smile when I think of those times. Babysitting couldn't have been more fun. I really shouldn't have gotten paid. Thanks Fritz and Kathy for sharing Jon and his brothers.

Love Dan and LuAnn Clark

Dearest Kaylene, Alison, Emily, & family;
Although I do not know you, I have been praying for Jon and all of you in recent months through the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church prayer chain in Casper, WY. Through your emails and updates, I felt as though I knew Jon, and your family. We shared your pain, your prayers, and now your grief at his passing. We give thanks for the love you all shared; and may the love and support of family and friends, your faith in God, and your cherished memories...

I am so sorry to hear about Jon's passing but understand his struggle and fight for life. I went with Jon twice to DC to lobby. Once we were stopped by a huricane (that is the only thing that would stop Jon). Jon and I together grilled John Shadegg to sign the Patient Navigator Bill. I served on the Advocacy Committee at ACS with Jon for many years and will miss him terribly. Jon has been a great inspiration and we will pick up his torch and continue to fight for a cure. We will continue to...
