Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Jon Kenneth Schmuke of Ballwin, Mo. peacefully passed away, June 30, 2022 at the age of 78.

Jon was the second child of Vernon and Thelma Schmuke. He grew up in St. Louis with his older sister Betty Joann Steffen. Jon was a beloved husband of Joann Schmuke, loving father of Jon J. Schmuke (Maryanne Dersch), Thomas Schmuke and Mike Schmuke (Christie Schmuke). Loving grandfather of Jasmine, Antonio, Taylor, Tommy, Sammy, Addison and Michael. Uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Jon graduated from O’Fallon Technical High School in St Louis and had a short career as an auto mechanic before establishing a long career in information technology. He enjoyed working on cars and building street rods, like his prized ‘39 Ford, and building long lasting friendships with his buddies. He was also a drag race driver in his 20’s and broke two world speed records in his “gasser” 56 Chevy in the quarter and half-mile track. Jon enjoyed football, as player in high school, coach of his son’s teams and as a spectator for college and professional games. He had a life-long love of dogs as companions and fosters his entire life.

Jon, Tom and Michael. Debbi and I are so sorry to hear about your father's passing. Our prayers are with you and your families that you will see the joy that your dad's life gave to many. I have fond memories of those classic cars he helped you all build and work on. Jon, I especially have you to thank for my career in the pizza business. We love you all and hope to see you soon.

From the Dee Family: Our sincerest condolences to all of you. Jon was a wonderful guy and such a kind person. We have very fond memories of him. He will be missed.

Always a good time when we were tailgating at the Rams football games

My heart goes out to Jon's wife and his beautiful family. I was one of his California cousins and only met him once on a trip to Missouri. His mom, Thelma was my mom's sister. My Aunt Thelma and Uncle Vernon were fiercely proud of their kids, Joann and Jon. I often heard about these two cousins when I was growing up and I know my mom, their Aunt Ginny loved Jon (and his sister, Joann) very much. I am keeping the whole family in prayers in the coming weeks and months. Please know that...

I remember meeting Jon at Grandma and Grandpa Ewald's house in St. Joseph Michigan....I thought he was pretty funny. I remember being at your wedding and reception and how much you two danced together.

Jon was my cousin and I remember the Schmuke’s reunions. We always had great food and great times. Great memories for ever.

I have a hard time expressing what a wonderful cousin Jon was. I have so many fond memories of time spent hanging out with him in the garage “working “ on cars. A kinder person would be difficult to find. Rest In Peace, Jon. Give hugs to all.
