Racine – With his loving and devoted wife, Susie by his side, Jon slipped away on the morning of December 20, 2012. Jon was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Richard and Florence (nee: Wagner) Soderberg on January 29, 1951. He was united in marriage to Susan Hansen on October 19, 1985. He lived in Racine for most of his life. Jon retired from the Racine Police Department in 2001 after 30 years as a respected officer and investigator. In the past 10 years, he deeply enjoyed working outdoors and running his farm, Rocking Horse Ridge, which was his true calling in life. Aside from any achievements, Jon's greatest accomplishment was the immense influence he had on his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. In the all too brief time that Jon lived, he impacted many, many lives and left and imprint on so many hearts. Jon was always accepting, generous and willing to go very far out of his way to help others. All who knew him will remember his easy smile and enthusiasm for life. Jon loved to keep busy; and even when fate would keep him otherwise, his will to keep going radiated from him. With heavy hearts, Jon leaves behind his dedicated wife of 27 years, Susan; four daughters, Carly (Brad) Carlton, Christa Wakefield, Courtney (Eric) Heide and Megan (Igor) Lisica; eight grandchildren, whom he meant the world to, Max Carlton, Logan and Brett Wakefield, Christian, Autumn and Noah Heide, and Rio and Niko Lisica; his sister, Pat Jackson; his brother, Richard "Pete" Soderberg; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his brother Bruce Soderberg. A memorial service will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2 pm. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 10 am until 2 pm service time. A memorial benefit in Jon's honor will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Roundabout Bar and Grill. "The family of Jon would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Pam, Amy, Tiffany, Jenny and Nichole for their kind and compassionate care to given Jon and his family. Also a heartfelt thank you goes to the family and friends of Jon for the special one on one support."
