Jon David Tobin, born June 5,1956 to Ernest and Patricia Tobin in Dayton, Ohio, passed on Monday, September 9, 2024 at home; he was surrounded by his family who loved him.
Throughout his 68 years in Ohio, Jon was selflessly dedicated to others. His early years of service started with the Boy Scouts of America, where he progressed through the ranks and ultimately earned the honor of Eagle Scout. Jon's service to his community continued when he took residence in Athens -serving with the Rome Township Volunteer Fire Department as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, and finally Captain. Jon applied his multiple SCUBA diving certifications and technical rock climbing and rescue training with the Fire Department as well as a Special Deputy Sheriff on the Athen County's Search and Rescue Team.
When he was not volunteering his time to the community, Jon owned and operated The Pedaler and The Packer, where he taught students the skills of SCUBA Diving, rock climbing, and advanced ropes courses through Hocking College. Jon's thumbprint to service is carried on through his students who have continued his teachings to many others.
Jon is survived by many in his life, but none more important than his wife Carol of 5 years, his daughter Jess, and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held in June, 2025. More details will follow. Cremation arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Please share a memory, a note of condolence, or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.

Oh, Jon. It is heartbreaking that you have left this world. You were such an amazing member of the community. Who will sit at the end of Guysville on Treat-or-Treat night, reminding drivers to be cautious, in your ‘Grumpy Firefighter’ costume. I will miss you stopping by the post office to mail items related to your shop (who else mails vials of air?!). And it was always a joy to see Buddy wiggling out in your truck. My heartfelt condolences to your family. Many prayers are being lifted up.

One of the good ones. Remember Jon operating the Bicycle Shop and his dry wit I found refreshing. I will miss him very much.
