VICKERS--Jon. The Metropolitan Opera mourns the death of Jon Vickers, the extraordinary dramatic tenor whose passionate performances of some of the most demanding roles in opera thrilled our audience for 27 years. Vickers made his Met debut in 1960 as Canio in Pagliacci and went on to sing 280...

Not sure what to say?

Jon vickers will remain, in opera history, one of the ever greatest singers/actors of all times, especially due to the fact that he considered himself as an "opera actor-singer" .
I am so glad to have seen him live as Grimes, Parsifal, Otello, Nero, Florestan and had the joy of speaking briefly to him afterwards . Thank you , Jon , to have been there .

Jon Vickers was a great singer and I was privileged to hear him in Winterreise and Die Walkure in Toronto.
He was my favourite Otello and Peter Grimes.
His thrilling voice was a gift from God.
May he rest in peace.

May the grief in your hearts be softened by the beautiful memories of your father; he was a man who loved God, family and life. He will always remain, for me, a man who I adored and like my father, he had enough love and wisdom to share with those dear to his heart. We are keeping you close in our thoughts and prayers. To the Vickers Family: I am so sorry to hear of Jon Vickers' death. We can be thankful that he lived a long, fulfilled life doing what he did so well. May the God of all comfort provide all who loved and adored him with the needed strength to endure the loss of a cherished loved one.

Vickers Family,

Please forgive me because the right words escape me when I wonder what to say to try to comfort you now when Our Blessed Lord has called the most admirable, most devout heldentenor I know of. Although I won't even pretend to know the grief you're feeling, please remember two things. You'll see Jon again, and to quote a song by Jamie Owens-Collins, "The bitter tears you've tasted will be diamonds in your crown." Christ rewards us in Heaven when we cope patiently with...

Jos and I send our heartfelt condolences to all Jon's family. We have lost a truly great Canadian, an incredibly wonderful tenor, truly the greatest I ever heard. But not just a plain tenor, not only a golden voice, but a great man, a great actor and a great communicator. Many are our memories of this great man, the many years Jos spend performing with Jon at Covent Garden, Jon singing in Otello, Peter Grimes and Aida among many roles. Our last meeting was in 2002, when he was a member of the...

You have my deepest sympathy. May good memories provide solace for you and your family during this challenging time and may God provide you with the assurance that you will see your loved one again. (John 17:3)

I`m sending my deepest sympathy to the family during your time of grief. May God's love and kindness comfort you and help you through this difficult time. (Psalm 119:50,76)
