Not sure what to say?

Jon was my mentor for tardive dyskinesia research when I was a resident/fellow at Harvard in the 1970s. What a walking encyclopedia of psychopharmacology and what a kind, compassionate teacher. I was truly blessed to have served at his feet. Robert P. Granacher, Jr., MD, MBA Lexington, KY.

Dr. Cole was one of the kindest and empathetic doctors of his time. He worked diligently to heal the mentally ill and cared for some of McLean Hospital's sickest patients. He is missed by all at McLean Hospital and remembered for his genius in psychopharmacology. RIP Dr. Cole

At the Fisher lake house

Jonathan, who launched my career and my marriage in 1959,was one of the dearest friends Carmen and I ever had. To know him was indeed to love him. He was there for everyone; he didn't have a malicious bone within him. He was truly a good man.

Thank you, Dr. Cole, for helping me in a time of crisis. You will be missed.

Dr Cole was my first boss, at Boston State Hospital in 1972. He was a kind man, treated all with dignity. His death diminishes me.

Words cannot express the loss we all feel of one of the most special people I have ever known. I was very privileged to have worked with him for so many good years - sharing his wisdom, knowledge, sense of humor, intelligence, compassion, and selflessness, to mention a few of the infinity of wonderful qualities that made him the extraordinary person he was. My sincere sympathies to Bonnie, Sean, and Josh, and all the family, friends, and colleagues who will miss him, but are so grateful to...

Bonnie, Josh and Sean – Though he never would have said it himself, Jonathan has a fair claim to be called the father of American clinical psychopharmacology. But he was so unassuming that no one who didn’t know that independently would ever have guessed it.

He was a giant, but very discreet. Except in his choice of ties, of course. And in his big and happy laugh.

What an excellent person Jonathan Cole was.

I will always remember Jonathan as I lucky enough to have known him: as a good and decent man; as a giant in the field; as a kind, gifted and thoughtful mentor to me when I was young and inexperienced; and as a lot of fun to be around!
What I try to contribute to patients as a physician and researcher I owe in no small measure to him. I have and will miss him.

It was an honor and privilege to know Dr. Jonathan Cole. He touched so many lives in his unassuming manner. We are all diminished by his death. Thank you Dr. Cole for all you did during your journey. Slainte.
