Jonathan L. Kaplan

I am very sorry to hear about Jon's passing. I didn't know he was sick so it was a shock when Gracia told me. I went to SF State with Jon back in 1990. Actually he was the first person I met at State when i was touring the school deciding to enroll or not. He was doing some crazy photos of a lot of household items and hot dogs and other domestic stuff arranged in bizarre ways. I took a liking to him immediately. What a sad loss of a wonderful human being. I've posted a lovely photo of Jon taken at our wedding in July of 2000. He and John Riley are looking at a camera together. Somehow, Jon never seemed that far from a camera and his art. He will be sorely missed.

How fortunate we are to have met someone as kind a Jonathan. I had lunch with him and fellow student from San Francisco State University less than a year ago--sitting on the dock of the Bay, literally looking past the Bay Bridge with the sun beaming upon us. Thank you for your goodness, Jonathan. Best regards to the Kaplan family.

Jonathan was always witty, smart, gracious and sweet. He generously shared his New York Times with me and we often rode the bus together home from the museum. He is truly missed.
