Jonathan “Jay” Perez, age 35 of Brick, NJ passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Jonathan was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, where he spent his childhood. During his teenage years he moved to Brick, NJ, where he lived until his passing. He graduated from Brick Memorial High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University. He loved learning about different cultures and experiencing their cuisine. He was especially intrigued by Asian history, particularly Japanese culture. So much so, that he studied a semester abroad in Japan. He was fluent in Japanese and Spanish. Jonathan was an avid reader, a “history buff” who loved dinosaurs and researching his family ancestry. He also had a wonderful sense of humor and was a jokester. His laugh could fill a room, we will miss his laughter.
He worked for a not-for- profit organization in New York City and returned to Brick, NJ where he later worked in retail at Lowe’s in Lakewood, NJ for several years. His passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of those who knew and loved him. We are blessed to have known this extraordinary man and he leaves us with memories that we will all cherish forever.
Jonathan was predeceased by his father, Juan A. Perez. Jonathan is survived by his mother, Bethzaida Perez of Brick, NJ; his sister, Monica M. Perez, and nephew, Enric M. Casas of San Antonio, TX; his maternal grandmother, whom he lovingly called “Mama” Ricarda Alvarez; paternal grandfather, “Papa” Antonio Perez; many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and his beloved pet, “Brownie”.
Viewing hours will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 4-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home located at 2170 State Highway 88, Brick, NJ. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to The Monmouth and Ocean Food Bank 3300 NJ-66, Neptune, NJ 07753 or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, www.lls.org. Due to Covid-19 Executive Orders of Governor Murphy, please be aware that masks must be worn at all times, social distancing must be maintained and there are capacity limitations for all gatherings. For the safety of all involved, we ask that you please limit your time in the funeral home and pay your respects briefly to allow the opportunity for others to do so as well.
