My father was Dr. Morris A. Freed, a a close colleague and friend of Dr. Rhoads. They went way back to Izzy Ravdin. My Dad, was older and had a general practice in West Phila. He thought Dr. Rhoads was brilliant and sent all his patients to him. I was the first RH baby who lived with the blood exchange. (1938) Dr.Rhoads helped to save my life. My life was influenced by Jonathan Rhoads in a number of ways. It is funny how these things happen, and how you are vaguely aware of them, but one doesn't have any other frame of reference. He has always been out there for me as an eminence grise, clearly illustrating what good things one person can accomplish with his life.

My mother went to medical school at Penn and was recruited to be a surgeon by Dr. Rhoads. She thought highly of him, but opted for pediatrics because it...

Jonathan, you will be so sorely missed. In a full life replete with opportunites to associate both with great surgeons, and great men, you towered above the all, intellecually and ethically.
