Jonathan Jordan “Johnny” Urness, 31, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Mass at 10:00 on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 State Route 150, Lee’s Summit, MO. Graveside Services will follow Mass at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO. This will be a joint service also honoring his mother Angela Renee Stover, who passed away from natural causes on December 30, 2024. Thomas Urness, Curtis Urness, Jr., Joshua Urness, Matthew Urness, Cori Arb, Caisyn Arb, Matthew Rice, and Eric Walker will be the pallbearers.
Johnny was born on September 6, 1993, in Independence, Missouri. He was a fun, adventurous child, known throughout his life for his warm smile, energetic charm, and happy demeanor. Johnny grew up in the Blue Valley neighborhood of Kansas City and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. He often performed volunteer work at neighborhood cleanups, the family’s community garden, and other events. He loved fishing and boating at his Uncle Chris’ home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Johnny spent several years as a freelance handyman, assisting with construction and landscaping projects. He also worked for Denny’s Restaurant on Front Street and on hotel renovation in Phoenix, Ariz.
Johnny was from a large family and was preceded in death by his mother Angela Stover, his brother Joseph Urness, uncles Eric Urness and Hubert Powell, Jr., great-grandmother Geraldine Brady, and honorary aunt Patsy Martin. He is survived by his father Curtis Urness, Sr., and stepmother Jolene Rice-Walker; grandparents William and Barbara Brady; brothers Thomas Urness, Curtis Urness, Jr., Joshua Urness, and Matthew Urness (Jessica); stepbrothers Matthew Rice (Taylor), Eric Walker, Christopher Walker (Stacie), Nathaniel Walker, and Daniel Walker; stepsisters Jennifer Walker (Frank) and Desmarae Walker. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Johnny will be sorely missed by a substantial number of people who loved him.
