Joni Lu Wright

Joni Lu Wright, a longtime resident of Midland, Texas, passed away at the age of 96 on March 7, 2017. She was born in the town of Courtney, in Martin County, on August 18, 1920 to Sam and Otie Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ray Wright, and one son, Norman Ray Wright. She lived in Martin County or Midland County all of her life. Joni Lu graduated from Courtney High School and later graduated from Texas Tech University in 1941. Joni Lu was a teacher in Midland for 30 years. She was married to Eugene Ray Wright for 69 years. They had three sons Norman, David, and Kenneth. Also, three daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, eight great-grand-children, and three great-great, grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. After Ray's death in December 2009, Joni Lu moved to San Antonio to be closer to family. Joni Lu left a legacy to her friends and family for being a very joyful woman who loved the Lord and loved to serve others. Her large family, many friends, neighbors, and church were her sources of great joy. She loved to laugh, entertain, cook for others, and always made you feel special in her home. Joni Lu truly loved living in West Texas with its wide open spaces. She and Ray attended Main Street Church of Christ and Golf Course Road Church of Christ. They often spoke of the many memorable times with their church friends. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland, Texas at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration lunch at Main Street Church of Christ at 101 W Parker Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Tipton Children's Home at http://www.tiptonchildrenshome.com.
