The Rev. J.P. Poole Sr.

DARLINGTON — Funeral service for the Rev. Jordan J. P. Poole Sr. of Darlington will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, in Round O Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. M.A. McMillian, pastor, the Rev. Joseph Poole, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Inc., Darlington.

The Rev. Poole died Wednesday, Feb. 13 in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born in Darlington, a son of the late Fred and Irene Samuel Poole.

He received his formal education in the Darlington County public schools.

He lived in Philadelphia and New Jersey for a number of years where he started his own contracting/landscaping business.

In 1973, he was called to preach. He served as associate minister at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Atco, N.J. In 1986, he and his family moved back to Darlington, where he was associate minister at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Round O Baptist Church. He became active in the Darlington County Prison Ministry.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary M. Poole of the home; six children, the Rev. Jordan (Jenny) Poole Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., Miss Carolyn Poole of Galloway, N.J., Eric Poole of Williamstown, N.J., Timothy (Hazel) Poole of Darlington, the Rev. Michael (Karla) Poole of Berlin, N.J., and the Rev. Joseph L. (Priscilla) Poole of Willingboro, N.J.; one sister, Mrs. Catherine (Clifford) Smith of Columbia; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a special daughter, Denise Jacobs of N.J.; one aunt, Mrs. Maggie Hicks; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wake services will be 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times the family is receiving friends at the residence, 508 I. Coe Lane, Darlington.

Here it is 2021 and I am missing my Dad more and more still. But even more than that his Impact on my life is more powerful today than ever. Now that my Brother Michael has transitioned as well there is a void that is so wide that it can never be filled.
