I joined SACNAS soon after I completed my doctoral studies in 1975 and it is through SACNAS that I met JV. He was an inspiration to me. He was a thoughtful mentor to me and to many others. He was generous with his time and always answered my emails in a thoughtful manner. He really was a joy to be around. Ich bin froh, dass meine Schwester Ingrid Weigand in den USA so eine tolle Zweitfamilie gefunden hat, mit der sie seit mehr als 50 Jahren eng verbunden ist. So musste sie ihre deutsche Ursprungsfamilie nicht so vermissen. Sie hat Joe und überhaupt alle Martinez in ihr Herz geschlossen.
