Jose Bungay Basilio, Sr., 94, passed away July 4, 2012. Survivors include a daughter, Purificacion Y. Basilio; three sons, Jose Y. Basilio, Jr. and wife Loreto, Norberto Y. Basilio and wife Wilhelmina, and Jose Armistico Y. Basilio (Jay); five grandchildren, Jocelyn L., Enrico L., Joselito L., Erwin L., and Norbert Vincent Basilio and wife Michelle; 11 great-grandchildren; Rudee Christopher Reyes, Jan Carlo De Hoyos, Kristina Anne, Annie, Patricia, Angel, John Kenneth, Rafael, Vghn Wynn, Nathaniel, and Olivia Basilio. He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Cresenciana Y. Basilio. He was a loving and caring husband and a devout Catholic – A Cursillo in Christianity member. A WWII veteran, he survived the Bataan Death March. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal and WWII Victory Medal. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church presided by Fr. Christiano Brito and Concelebrant, Fr. Leo Manalo. Burial will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m with Fr. Manalo.
