Mr. Coronado was my Boss - Great leader and Mentor - RIP Mr. C

I met José in 1971 in a scuba diving class at Rice University. After we completed the course we both went to scuba dive on several trips off of the Texas coast. On one memorable trip to the flower gardens I remember José being incredibly sea sick. Once back on land he was fine. Jose provided me with my first “real” job in the photo department at the Houston VA. I am grateful to have known José. He was a bright light in this world and am sure he shines brightly from heaven now.

I reflected on the opportunity Mr. Coronado gave me. I was one of his Administrative Student Interns in 1986. I owe much of my success to his guidance.

I worked with Mr. Coronado for several years in the 1970's and then returned to work under his direction in 1994 until he retired. He was a fine person, a great leader, one who kept his hand firmly on the wheel and directed the VA in clear and ethical directions for many years. I am sure that he will be assisting the Executive Director in the world beyond this one and we will meet again.

We had the privilege of working for Mr. Coronado during the early years at Audie Murphy. What a true professional and leader, who touched the lives of so many staff, patients and families. Mr. "C" will always be remembered and truly missed. May God bless you and your family.

Mr. Jose R. Coronado was a great teacher and had a passion for excellence. I was aware of his legendary status for most of my VA career and then had the privilege to work with him for over 5 years. We had many talks during this time. I listened, he talked and I learned much from him. To this day, I remember all the advice that he provided and I am very thankful to have had such a powerful role model. I am proud to be part of the legacy Mr. Corronado left behind.

Mr. Jose Coronado was a leader and mentor who enriched the lives of those who work for the VA and benefited the veterans we serve.

We have lost a true icon and gentleman among the ranks of the Veterans Administration. Our family's sincere condolences to the Coronado family; we know if there is a VA hospital in heaven, Jose will be there waiting for us. God bless and keep you, Jose. There is no doubt, as Larry said, that we will indeed see you again on the other side.....

Thank you Mr. Coronado for your leadership in the VA. You gave me opportunities that made me a better servant to our Veterans. I came to the VA through the GHATP Fellows program and am grateful for your focus on young careerists in VHA healthcare. You have left a legacy throughout all the VA. Thanks for your mentoring and advice. It was always very timely. You will be remembered for your excellence. I appreciated your kindness to my family.

God Bless you and your family.
