Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Jose G. Cruz 80 of New London died Tuesday June 15, 2021, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital I New London.  Jose was born December 12, 1940 in San Salvador, El Salvador to Ramon Carrillo and Genoveva Cruz.  He married Esperanza Mejia Cruz, she survives him.

Jose was a hard worker and worked in many positions.  Most recently he worked for the Mohegan Sun Casino until his retirement.

Jose was raised in El Salvador where he graduated High School and earned two College Degrees.  He and his wife Esperanza were married there and moved to the United States in 1980.  They originally moved to Los Angeles and later to the east coast.  That is how Jose developed his following of the Dodgers and the Yankees.

His love of baseball was shared with his homeland sport of soccer.  He would enjoy watching games and matches.  Jose also had a passion for traveling.

Jose was a family man.  He found joy in spending time with family.  Having family get togethers or just watching a game, he loved being with his family very much.  He will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife Esperanza, he is survived by two sons Reynaldo Cruz and Ernesto Cruz, three daughters Genoveva Cruz, Rina Cruz and Marta Villalta, 14 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday June 22, 2021, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington Street in New London.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Wednesday June 23, 2021, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington Street in New London.  Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in New London.
